Public systems
Public or community sanitation requires efficient methods of removing human and animal wastes, as well as the removal of trash and garbage. Sewer systems also require an efficient delivery of water to the effluent site and ways of filtering out solids. Public sewerage and clean water delivery in the city of London sharply reduced the fatal epidemics of cholera that arose from citizens using water from contaminated sources. Water-borne and human waste-borne diseases are under control today because of the systems developed initially in the late 19th century and further refined into our modern systems today.
